Nyeri
General Information
Nyeri is situated in the Central region of Kenya and despite being its eighth largest town, it has a small compact feel to it. The leafy suburbs and heavily planted small-holdings give the town a lush laid-back atmosphere.
Nyeri has many famous former residents including President Mwai Kibaki, Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai and marathon runner Catherine Ndereba, as well as Lord Robert Baden-Powell, whose cottage, on the grounds of the Outspan Hotel is now a small museum. Every year on his birthday, approximately 30,000 boy scouts and girl guides march from the Outspan Hotel to his grave.
