Kisumu
General Information
Kisumu is situated in the Nyanza region of Kenya. The town is located on the edge of Lake Victoria.
Kisumu was known as Port Florence in 1901 and grew rapidly into a busy port connecting to ports in Uganda and Tanzania. The steady decline of trade by boat started in 1970 with Kisumu not being as prosperous today as it once was. Commercial shipping services have slowly resumed on a small scale, but it will take a while before Kisumu is back to its former glory.
