Namanga
General Information
Namanga is possibly Kenya's busiest border town and is set in the Rift Valley of Kenya. Namanga is en-route to the Amboseli National Park, which is home to some of the region's oldest elephants. A game reserve since 1899, Amboseli became a national park in 1974.
Namanga is overlooked by the majestic dome of Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. The border is the gateway to Tanzania's safari-head, Arusha.
Tourism is a crucial part of the economy here, and the road leading to the boarder post is lined with street vendors selling anything from Maasai jewellery to fresh produce. The atmosphere sizzles with activity and the town has a vibrant feel to it. Namanga is set beside a river which offers pretty views and good breaks from the rutted and busy roads.
